Fermi Lab core utilities and applications supported on Red Hat Linux

Fermi Labā—a research lab that was part of the high-energy physics community and, at the time, the home of the highest-energy particle accelerator in the world (the Tevatron)--announced that they provide core utilities and applications that run on Red Hat Linux (in addition to the usual flavors of UNIX that these scientific high-performance computing farms usually support). This was the beginning of Linux as a cost saver in scientific computing architectures.
