Fedora Core 1 available, Fedora Core 2 (with 2.6 kernel) work begins

Fedora Core 1 provided a complete Linux platform built exclusively from open source software. Available at no cost, the release served the needs of community developers, testers, and other technology enthusiasts who wish to participate in and accelerate the technology development process. Following its release, work began on the next wave of Fedora technology—integrating the 2.6 kernel into what would become Fedora Core 2.
