UNDER THE BRIM CONTEST I: WIN THE RED FEDORA

We get requests for our Shadow Man's "red hat," the red fedora, all the
time. We want you to have one, but you are going to have to earn it. So
this month we introduce the Under the Brim Contest with a simple
question:

What would you do for a red fedora from Red Hat?

Send us an email at UTB@redhat.com and spill it out in thirty words or
less. You MUST use the words "berries" and "slop" in your answer. The
person who gives us the funniest or most creative answer wins a red
fedora (a $49.99 USD value)!

In the next issue of Under the Brim, we'll print the winner along with
the top three runners up.

Please specify if you DO NOT want your name or submission noted on the
next e-newsletter if you are a selected runner up or winner!

RED HAT'S ALL NEW PRIORITY ONLINE ACCESS

Red Hat puts the ultimate power in its users' hands with the all-new
Priority Online Access feature, now available when you purchase Red Hat
Linux 6.1. Here's the rundown on what you get:

-- Priority FTP Access -- As a Red Hat Linux 6.1 owner, you will
receive free access to ftp://priority.redhat.com, our preferred customer
FTP service, offering high bandwidth connections day and night.
-- Email Notifications -- Be one of the first people to download the
latest security and bug fixes. Red Hat Linux 6.1 owners can sign up to
receive subject-specific notifications via email as soon as new RPM
updates are ready for download.
-- Red Hat Update Agent -- Now included on your Red Hat Linux 6.1
desktop, the Red Hat Update Agent adds intelligence to the RPM download
process. Use a web-based selection form to choose the packages you would
like to have downloaded and, optionally, even installed on your system
for you. The Update Agent can even tell you which versions of packages
already have been installed on your system!

CUSTOMIZED DESKTOP CONTEST WINNER SCORES TRIP TO ALS

With help from organizers of the Atlanta Linux Showcase, Red Hat issued
all LUGs (Linux User Groups) a challenge: Make a desktop theme that
makes us re-examine our existence, or at least say "Wow, that's cool."
We promised the winner a free trip to and hotel accommodations at ALS,
where he or she could enjoy a full conference pass and a public display
of his or her winning desktop.

We've found a winner. Miguel Louro, a member of LEAD (Linux Enthusiasts
Association of Durban) presented us with the kind of sleek and
futuristic desktop that we absolutely had to choose as the winner. Now
this 20-year-old from South Africa is on his way to Atlanta to attend
ALS and blow the attendees away with his desktop and his enthusiasm.

"I`ve always wanted to go to the USA, now my dream comes true," says
Miguel, as he prepares his travel arrangements to go to the States. How
will he like the U.S.? How will ALS attendees like his desktop? How
will he possibly squirm out of his job as a network administrator for
five days without getting in trouble? Stay tuned to our User Group site
for these answers.

WORLDWIDE NETWORKING LEADER USES RED HAT LINUX FOR ENTERPRISE PRINT
SOLUTION

This month's featured Red Hat Linux Success Story is Cisco Systems,
which uses Red Hat Linux to significantly improve the performance of its
print servers. Highlights:

-- By introducing Red Hat Linux on its print servers, Cisco Systems has
eliminated system failures and greatly reduced printer downtime
-- Red Hat Linux gives Cisco an enterprise-wide print server solution
with a fast and simple install process and easy-to-handle OS updates
from the Red Hat website that can be quickly mirrored to every print
server in the country
-- Red Hat Linux's open source code eliminates the "impenetrable black
box" syndrome, and allows Cisco's system administrators to do their own
system troubleshooting
