Thanks for the tip.
I actually abandoned manually editing stage2 and I am now in the process
building it with buildinstall.
I actually think I just solved it by putting the booty rpm into
mydistro/RPMS and re-ran buildinstall. It is installing as we speak.
I don't think it gave me a problem with newt* yet.
