We used to do it, you're always wrong about half the time. Some people use the first, some use the last. It's just not something that you can
guess.

Well, there is always router discovery as defined by RFC 1256. Not sure
how widely implemented it is, though.


Hardly at all for IPv4, but we do it for IPv6.
