So with this change, if a user assigns a hostname for their machine at
install time and that hostname can't be looked up in DNS? Does the box
hang and wait for a timeout?
Or actually, since we're using NetworkManager now and the network bringup isn't
synchronous, I guess it could even happen if your host is in DNS
