question about hardware raid 1 (IDE)

Hi all,
i am looking for a working raid 1 for my pc. I want use a ide hardware based
solution (promise controller). At the moment linux founds two hard disks.
The second is the mirror device. Thats my problem.
Also, if i want to install linux, only the first hd is working.
Can anyone help me?
