Note that the 2.0.35 kernel that Red Hat ships in RPM (source) form
already has the em86 patches applied. A look at the .srpm package shows a
very LARGE alpha-only patch being applied to the kernel, of which much is
the em86 stuff.
I got em86 working just by compiling Red Hat's kernel for my machine
(i.e., NOT the kernel off of ftp.kernel.org) with that i386 option, and
installing the RPM's off of DEC's FTP site. Unfortunately, my efforts to
run the i386 Netscape Communicator failed because of the library
situation, and I haven't had a chance to figure out which libraries are
the culprits yet.
