OK, it's working now. It was finding /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.7.2.8 instead of
the /usr/X11R6/lib/libstdc++.so.2.8.0 that it should have been finding.
Much thanks for all the help here, this probably explains a dew other problems
I have had in the past.
