I've seen this too... something funny about the new config stuff
perhaps, only see it on Alpha and not often (if anyone has any
insight as to why, I'd really like to know).

Anyhow, the easiest fix is to:

 cd /usr/src/linux
 make clean && make dep && make && make modules
