I am having the same problem while attemping the same install (Redhat 5.1
via FTP) with the same built in SCSI adapter on a UDB/Multia.
Did you arrive at a solution? Can you pass it along?

Installing RedHat 5.1 on a DEC AlphaStation 200 4/233 PCI
with a built-in NCR 53C810 PCI SCSI.
I boot using the RedHat-5.1/alpha avanti-s.img and ramdisk.img images,
choose Installation via FTP, which prompts me to identify my SCSI adapters.
I select "NCR 53C8xx PCI", but get the error:
/bin/insmod: No such file or directory.
What's up? Are these images defective???
The regular RedHat 5.1 Installation Guide Section 3.4 mentions
that Installing from FTP "requires a supplemental diskette",
but I see no mention of this diskette anywhere else (not in the regular
guide, nor the Alpha Addendum), nor was I prompted for it
(after switching to the ramdisk, which was during the boot process,
before the installer even appeared).
