Not to start a x86 vs Alpha discussion, but could you comment on the
relative performance of XL300 vs x86 performance on FP and Integer
apps under Linux-Axp and Linux-x86 respectively?
Basically, it's to see if I'm getting my money's worth. I'll be paying
about US$1500 (inlcuding shipping) for the 300MHz XL300 with 64MB Ram,
2GB Hdd and 16GB PCI video card combination. In x86 world, that buys a
PII-350 or 400MHz system. But if the XL300 gives about equivalent
performance, I'm willing to give it a try.
