I have no experience with an AS400, but maybe it'll be useful to you to
know that it does work on at least some Alphae.
I have a parallel port ZIP drive running on my SX164 with no problems.
Apparently the SX164 has a PC-style bi-directional printer port, so the
device drivers just... work. I believe that in 2.1.x kernels, however, I
have to enable the "PC-style parallel port" option under the "enable
parallel port" option. If the AS400 has a PC-style parallel port (can
anyone else answer this?) I'd imagine you'll have no trouble.
Just make sure to buy the drive from a vendor who'll let you return it... ;)
