Certainly not. Could the Microway's representative have been
talking about the SCSI-bus length limitation? If you have any
external drives, it's likely that the bus length becomes
the primary limiting factor.
I had a 2940UW on a DEC Alpha/Linux with two internal wide
SCSI hard drives and two external SCSI-devices. Up to that
point everything worked fine, but adding an external CD-R
drive to the chain was too much; the bus grew too long. A
dual channel adapter (3940UW) solved the problem.
