PPP problems with RH 5.0

I had the same problems.  Apparently, the PPP that went out on the CD
is broken.  Install ppp-2.3.3-2.alpha.rpm from
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/redhat-5.0/updates/alpha and that
should fix your problem.
