Kernel Problems (continued)

I've solved my original kernel problem

  Bad filehdr magic number 0x8b1f should be 0x183

and now have a new problem.  

When MILO jumps to my new kernel, white noise comes from the speaker (or
headphones), and the UDB hangs.  I suspect it's a problem with the sound
support (duh, right? :) but can't figure it out.  Has anyone experienced
this before?
