applix under em86

Again I find myself asking a question that I am pretty sure I have seem here
before. Searching both the redhat site and with dejanews has yielded me many
posts of the same question but not the answer.

I installed em86 on my RH 5.0 system and it seems to work. At least it runs the
Andrew stuff for Linux/Intel.

So I got a little bolder and installed Applix. Attempting to run this give me:

/opt/applix/axdata/axmain: can't load library 'libaxel.so'
/opt/applix/axdata/axmain: Device or resource busy        

There is a tyhread on the axp-list which *seems* to be about my problem, but
after searching it for some time only to see endless posts about Doom (about
which I care not) I grow weary of seemingly useful info which is not. PLEASE
folks, change the subject when your topic diverges so radically from the
subject line.

Any help in getting applix running would be appreciated.
