Basically true, but there are applications where disc speed is
not the major problem, so the difference would not justify the
cost. If you follow your logic to extremes, they will also need
a $1000 graphics card with full z-buffering etc., but if they
are only looking at the console screen, it is a waste of money.
Life is full of compromises, and peripherals are often where the
compromise comes.
