Applix under em86

I've made more progress, but hit a wall.
Applix now runs consistently every other time I start it (the other times it
crashes the emulator). I can live with this.
Everything seems to work *except* printing. When I print, Applix hangs
permanently and must be killed.
If I choose PCL5 or PostScript as the printer the file is written to my home
directory as it should be. If I choose my real printer the 1.ps file gets
written as well, so the problem is not with the graphics conversion libs or
anything like that. The printer is a real PS printer so I'm not using
ghostscript if that might matter (it shouldn't AFAIK).
If I do "lpr 1.ps" the file prints correctly, so it would seem the printing
subsystem is working (and it does work with all my other programs, including
EZ under em86).
I selected "lpr" as the printing shell script under preferences/printing, so it
would seem that if all Applix is doing is lpr-ing the file it should work. I
read that using the stock -s -r options can cause trouble and -P is unnecessary
as I have only one printer.
My Applix book says that printer setup info is on page 1-7. Unfortunately
chapter 1 ends at 1-6. In any case I think I have it set up properly as it is
the same as an Intel system at work that is working fine.
Granted I can print to a file and then print manually I would rather have it
work properly. I suppose I could even create a cron job that checks for new .ps
files every minute and then prints them but that seems crude.
Ideas appreciated as always. I'd also like to hear of any experiences with
em86/Applix - good or bad.
