(hardware config lies below)
While attempting an install of Redhat 5.0 on my UDB I can get as far as
formating the hard disk but it locks up (actually just freezes, i can still
alt+F1,alt+F2...) while writing inode tables: 7/241. I have tested the
hard drive in another machine and it works fine. I have tested another
hard drive in the UDB with the same outcome. I have tried creating new
installation disks, but again the same outcome. I have even tried
inserting a new scsi (an aha-2940uw) in the pci slot and still the same
outcome. I have tried multiple configurations of the scsi chain with the
same outcome. I read in one of the HOWTO's that any problems (termination,
cabling, etc) with the scsi chain will unveil themselves during the
formatting process due to the intensity of the formatting process. Is this
true, or can they be discovered earlier?
I have not yet attempted terminating the bus with an active terminator, i
have tried to use the built in termination of my scsi hard disk.
Thanks for all your help,
Ben T. Eisemann
