Hello AXP-friends,
I've compiled a new 2.1.101-kernel on our Sable (2100/475) two-processor Alpha.
To my great pleasure it was finally able to boot over the NCR -810 SCSI
drivers, just as my last sucessfully compiled 2.1.82-kernel (The following
kernels won't boot because of problems in this driver).
It is my first SMP kernel on this machine, but to my disappointment I've
encountered randomly after some moments (between shortly after boot during
system initialisation and about 15 minutes during a large tar session) spinlock
messages with a total blocked system.
The machine has to be resetted after this error, the halt-restart button does
not work.
Has someone an idea how to get rid of these spinlocks? Perhaps problems with
the SCSI driver again? Our sable has only a FDDI card, two SCSI-cards, Compaq
Qvision VGA and a DEC ethernet card.
The single-CPU version (The same Makefile, only SMP=1 commented out) works very
fine and stable.
An other weird effect: the BogoMIPS are about twice compared to 2.1.82 (or, as
I'll have expected, four times with two CPUS). Was there a code change?
Andreas
