Had the same problem, and have had it with a lot of other programs that
auto-config. What I did was to change the references to alphaev56 in config.sub
to alphapca56 (there were two such). Everything worked OK and I've had no
problems with programs compiled this way. Methinks the auto-config stuff should
be updated to recognize the alphapca56 CPU type.
If there is a better solution than this unsubtle hack please let me know :-)
