Upgrading kernel on a Jensen

How does one upgrade the kernel on a Jensen running Red Hat
Linux? I have been given the task of upgrading the kernel
on a Jensen in the dept. and I'm not quite sure how.
It's currently running 2.0.27. It seems to be booting a 
kernel located someplace other than /vmlinux.gz,
since that kernel isn't the booting kernel - it's a newer
one.

The Jensen Howto gives a procedure for installing Linux
via loading a 1.3.72 bootdisk into the ARC console.
Do I follow this procedure?
