sendmail pausing

Hi all,  I recently came back from college where my multia was on ethernet.
 I got back home and tried changing from 129.21.113.50 (with a gateway @
129.21.113.126) to the local ip 192.168.0.2 (with no gateway).  

Now when its booting up and starting the sendmail deamon it pauses for
about 1min 30s (give or take).  To make it even stranger, I can ping it
from one of my NT machines just fine, but when i try and telnet or ftp, it
just connects and sits there with no prompt (I assume its the same kind of
timeout as sendmail, I just haven't waited long enough to check if it is :)  

I'm running the 2.1.98 kernel.

any ideas?
