This is probably a problem with SHM. GTK uses MITSHM if it is available,
and there seems to be glitches with the SHM support in RedHat patched
kernels. Should be OK if you are running a stock kernel, though.

I've been running 2.1 kernels for a while now, and have never tried the
2.0.33/34 kernels. Check to see if you configured SysV IPC into your kernel.
