I saw Gnome at the Linux Expo recently concluded. My conclusion was that it may
well be useful in the future but for the present KDE is much further along (no
disparagement on the Gnome team, KDE had a big headstart). The problems with
the QT licensing are not of concern to me and KDE works quite well on the
Alpha. I asked at Expo about Gnome running on the Alpha and the concensus was
that it "should" work but nobody could show me an Alpha running it.
The entire expo was somewhat intel-centric (although DEC and DCG were there)
which figures I guess, given the overwhelming Intel base out there.
Linus did say that the Alpha was his favorite platform, which brought a rousing
applause :-)
