I beg your pardon? How many kernels did you try?

And if you're booting a MIKASA, we do NOT recommend doing so from ARC
console, which may be one reason why it didn't work.

I don't think so, since I'm the one that supplies linload.exe to everyone.
One doesn't run it from NT, it's NOT an equivalent of loadlin on INTEL.

So you DID try to boot from SRM console? That "vmlinux.gz" must be the one
supplied by the "mikasa-s.img" in order to work.

Also, I did see some strange behavior the other day with "aboot" when
booting from serial console; it did the same thing, ie printed an "a" and
then halted.

Try running from graphics console, that worked better for me.
