Re: Installing RH on Ruffian from scratch

Bootstrap a ruffian with linux (RH 5.1)
 
1) You need to do a proper DOS format on the partition first.
Arcinst.exe will do this for you:
http://www.windowsnt.digital.com/support/drivers/drivers.asp
Copy this file on a DOS-floppy.
Start this executable from ARCS BIOS with:
 <Enter Setup>
 <Run a Progrogram>
    a:arcinst.exe
and install a small partition (1 to 10 MB).
Later you can copy milo and ldmilo.exe on this partition.
 
2) Download
ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/Kernels/ldmilo-ruffian-981020
ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/Kernels/milo-ruffian-981020
and copy them on a DOS-floppy.
These files are much better than the RedHat-prgs.

 
3) dd or rawrite
ruffian.img and ramdisk.img
on two floppies (see RedHat-Manual).


4)Start Setup: go back to ARCS BIOS:
 <Enter Setup>
 <Run a Progrogram>
  a:ldmilo.exe
... normal redhat-alpha-installation
