fail to install linux to UX

Hi,
   I just bought a UX164 and plan to install linux to it.I get the
ldmilo.exe,milo.ful,osfpal.nh,kernel image and ramdisk image from
Deskstation Corp. home page.It run ok until making filesystem for the
root partition.After making ext2 filesystem and begin to install
software packages,it report "RPM install of basesystem failed",and then
when I press "OK" botton,the system is reboot.But installing NT is OK.
   Can anyone give me some suggestion about how to do  about
this?Thanks.
