164LX sound problems

Hello,

For various reasons, I had to do a complete reinstall of Linux on a
Microway Screamer with AWE64 soundblaster, which I did with RedHat 5.1.
Now I can't get sound to work with it the way I had it working on
2.1.122 before the reinstall.  I've tried 2.1.122, 125 and 126, but not
2.0.34.

Kernel sound config:
CONFIG_SOUND=m
CONFIG_SOUND_OSS=m
CONFIG_SOUND_SB=m
CONFIG_SOUND_ADLIB=m
CONFIG_LOWLEVEL_SOUND=y
CONFIG_AWE32_SYNTH=m

Symptoms:
- /proc/sound doesn't exist!
- cat /dev/sndstat gives "cat: /dev/sndstat: Operation not supported by
device"
- insmod sound gives the following unresolved symbols:
 sound_preinit_lowlevel_drivers_Rebdfb792
 unregister_sound_dsp_Rcd083b10
 sound_unload_lowlevel_drivers_Ra675fda1
 unregister_sound_midi_Rfdab6de3
 register_sound_dsp_Rd89027fb
 register_sound_mixer_R6dec612e
 unregister_sound_mixer_R7afc9d8a
 unregister_sound_special_R99c95fa5
 register_sound_special_R774f2fee
 sound_init_lowlevel_drivers_Rec0251af
 register_sound_midi_R148233ce

Is this a kernel config problem? I don't think so because my old
.config file with 2.1.122 gives me this problem now with the same
2.1.122. My only guess is that Microway installed some required files
that I don't know about, but does the kernel see these files when it
compiles?
