Yes, this is a known problem.
Try using the rawhide-s.gz kernel from RH 5.2. You can also grab it from
gatekeeper.dec.com:
/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/Kernels/rawhide-s.gz
Good luck.
BTW, once you get installed, if you have 2 CPUs, you could also try the
generic-smp-122.gz kernel that's located in the same place... :-) :-)
