I just happened to get that same error today while loading and trying out
monkey (a small dos based form of Linux) It occurred because I had
mis-specified the root device in the batch file. My guess is that you are
loading the boot image with the wrong parameter for root. Check the options
being passed by the bootloader. It should be echoed in the first few lines of
the boot process.
