ide controller

I posted a question a couple of days ago with no response; let me try in
a different form.

Has anyone had any problems adding an IDE controller to an AS 200? I
wanted to install one to temporarily use an IDE disk. I added  a basic
controller card and plugged in the drive. The boot goes normally at
first with the controller and drive being recognized. Later, when the
controller is reset, the drive is detected as busy, and the system goes
into an infinite loop of timeout errors. The drive works fine when
booting under NT.

Any ideas?
