unaligned trap & segmentation faults on AlphaStation 500 (redhat5.1)

Hi

I've installed Linux Redhat 5.1 on my Alphastation 500 using the xlt.gz kernel
image. I installed the distribution off the Redhat FTP server.

Problem:
1. Some of my executables reports 'unaligned traps' and terminates with a
'segmentation fault'. Can anybody enlighten me as to this problem, its causes and
how to rectify it.
2. Some applications also refuses to build (terminated during 'make' for various
undecipherable reasons).
3. Cannot start X-server, terminated with a 'no screens found' error, even though I
used the SVGA server

I plan to use the machine as a commercial website, FTP server as well as a chat
server . I have never encountered problem 1 above with my Linux Intel machines and I
am wondering is there a way to check wether the critical operating files are
affected as well.

I am fairly seasoned user/admin of Linux Intel and this is my 1st venture into
Digital Alphas.

Thank you. Appreciate very much if you could give me feedbacks and suggestions.
