I believe this adapter uses a 21142 or 21143 chipset, right?  Did you try
compiling in support for the "DE425, DE434, DE435 support" driver
(CONFIG_DE4X5)?  If that doesn't work, try getting the latest tulip.c from
cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/linux/drivers/test
