The X-server which you're using is for the TGA1 (i.e. the 21030) based
cards i.e. the ZLXp-E[123] which Tim Rowley most excellently hacked it
to support the ZLXp-E[23] (24bit), previous it only supported the
ZLXp-E1 (8bit).

Your choices are:
1. Write  your own X-server (but I'm afraid you'll need a NDA to get the
specs) for the TGA2
2. Change your card (the Millenium I and II are very well supported in
the Alpha as are the cheaper S3 Virge-based cards).
