general alpha RH5.1 questions

I've just got a basic question about RH5.1 on my Alpha:

1)  How can I set the local display to 80x50 text mode (or more) rather than
the default 80x25?  Normally this is done with LILO, but of course that
doesn't apply to the axp versions of Redhat.
