cross-compiling

Where can I find some info on cross-compiling linux kernels? I'm currently
running a Multia 166, which takes a good hour to an hour and half to compile
(depending on how many spiffy services/drivers we enabled). We're always
trying out new configurations on it, which means recompiling very often.
Well, we have a number of very fast machines in the office, ranging from
K6-2-300's to quad-ppro200's to p2-450's. Unfortunately my little Multia is
the only Alpha. So, I'm looking for a way to compile my Alpha kernel on one
of our faster x86 linux machines.
Does this sound feasible? Can anyone give me an idea of how much difficulty
we're looking at?
