Hello, The correct product name is DEC 3000, as you know already it is the first Alpha system, but this is pre-PCI days, therefore the logical choice of a workstation class buss that Digital had in those days was the Turbochannel... Here's a picture of a deskside pedestal unit. Is this the one you're talking about? And yes NT does _NOT_ run on it! And sadly Linux does not _CURRENTLY_ run on it! But the good news is there is an active Linux port in progress by a group in Germany ;-), these are the folks who was involved in the MIPS port of Linux, but I lost the URL... The Linux/MIPS URL: http://lena.fnet.fr/ (if you're listening, could you please update the list on your progress..apparently there're quite a number of people who _OWNS_ a DEC3000 and wants to run Linux, TIA) Also Check out Redhat's page of supported Alpha hardware: http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/alpha/rh51-hardware-alpha-3.html HTH, Wai-Sun <SNIP> > As I recall the Alpha 3000 series were VMS and OSF/1 only and > they couldnot > run NT and I assume they couldnt run Linux either. Those machines dont > support the PC architecture, meaning no PCI or ISA bus for example. <SNIP>
