Re: Unpacking Alpha RPMs on an Intel Box

I presume you're planning to have the NFS partition mounted as the
root of the UDB's filesystem?

It should be possible, with a little manual fanagling, to get a
vanilla RH install onto an NFS mounted partition. This is difficult to
describe, the more so 'cuz I'm not sure exactly what's involved and would
have to play with it to be sure. My best guess, though, would be to go
through all the steps up to, but _not_ including, the step where it mounts
the partition to install to. At that step, switch over to the console
(VT2? 3? 5? I can't remember...), mount the NFS partition at the place
where the setup program's going to install to, then continue with the
installation from the _next_ step. I've done similar things, but not
exactly that; don't know if or how well it will work.

If you just want to install packages, use "rpm
--root /path/to/udb-nfs-home -i packagename.rpm". Before you start
installing them, you'll likely have to do "rpm --rebuilddb --root
/path/to/udb-nfs-home" to get all the databases & such set up right.

The latter is more likely to work, but is slower and more tedious.

Good luck.
