The XF86_SVGA binary at ftp://mea.tmt.tele.fi/pub/XFree86/ worked for me
with >20 open non-trivial windows (xboard, games, emacs, etc),several with
running programs. The README at this site is useful. Over the next week,
I'll give it a few rugged workouts.
Thanks to Michal Jaegermann
Microway is reputed to have a working SVGA X server at
ftp://data.microway.com/. I didn't try it though the sender considered it
sound on his own machine.
Thanks to the sender, who provided only an email address.
Thank you for the thoughtful replies. I knew this was a friendly and
helpful <virtual> community.
