There were at least three different cases for the DEC 3000 series. The
3000/300 models are desktop workstations with cases identical to the
Personal DECstations. The higher-numbered models (3000/[45678]00) came in
larger desktop and deskside cases.

Hmmm, I'll assume you're talking about me (if there's someone else
working on this, please let me know !). The URL for our DECstation
porting efforts is http://decstation.unix-ag.org, some of the information
is also interesting for owners of TurboChannel Alphas. I'm still working
on updating the relevant portion of the MIPS Linux FAQ on lena.fnet.fr
... and waiting for the arrival of my 164SX board for faster compiling ...
My biggest problem at the moment is lack of documentation on the SRM console.
My 3000/300X starts booting aboot but crashes due to an uninitialised stack
pointer or simply hangs (depends on firmware version). This is also a -
still unresolved - problem with recent firmware (> 1.7) on the Jensen
AXPpc150's ...
Does anyone have a copy of the Alpha Architecture Reference (_not_ the
handbook, I already have that - and there's obviously no online version of
the Reference :-() that he/she could loan me ? I'm afraid ordering the book
here in Germany will take months (and it costs UKP 45 - ouch !) ...

Yeah, I know. I even got a call last week from a guy in our physics
dept. who wants to convert some of their 3000/300LX Alphas from VMS to
Linux ...
regards,
Michael

Microsoft is not the Borg collective. The Borg collective has got proper
networking.
