Hi,
I've used rawrite to create an SRM bootable disk for my box using the
generic kernel on the RH6 CD I have and am getting a strange error. I've
got a DS3305 which currently has NT on it. It's got a Trio64 videocard and
no other special hardware, (no raid) all OEM. When I follow the
instructions here (rawrite SRM boot disk):
<http://www.digital.com/alphaserver/linux/install_guide.html>
I get this error:
halted CPU 0
halt code = 5
HALT instruction executed
PC = fffffc0000310088
boot failure
>>>
Following the above instructions this is what loads onto my screen at boot
time:
(boot dva0.0.0.1000.0 -file vmlinux.gz -flags root=/dev/hda)
block 0 of dva0.0.0.1000.0 is a valid boot block
reading 168 blocks from dva0
bootstrap code read in
Building FRU table
FRU table size = 0x982
base = 1d800, image_start = 0, image_bytes = 15000
initializing HWRPB at 2000
initializing page table...
initializing machine state
settting affinity to the primary cpu
jumping to bootstrap code
aboot: Linux/Alpha SRM bootloader version 0.5
aboot: switching to OSF/1 PALcode version 1.23
aboot: no disklabel found,
aboot: booted_dev='dva 0 1000 0 0 0 0 0', guessing boot_device='fd0'
aboot:loading compressed vmlinux.gz
aboot: ok, now starting the kernel...
then the screen flashes/refreshes (actually turns from a blue background to
black background) a lot of information most of what looks like the kernel
probing the devices on my machine (this happens for about 3 seconds) I see
the hard disks I have and the fact that this appears to be a Noritake board,
then back to the afore mentioned problem, namely....
halted CPU 0
halt code = 5
HALT instruction executed
PC = fffffc0000310088
boot failure
>>>
Any suggestions? I'm stumped.
Waiting greatfully,
Chris Cohen
