Thanks Fernando, for the pointer.
I am probably using a wrong image but it's not a kernel panic, the
system hangs during CD boot. I will review the stuff that you gave the
references to, let me try that and will get back if I need to.
Thanks again!  If you are curious, here's what was happening:

Jensen with SRM version 1.7

Max ASN from HWRPB is bad (0xf)
Memory: 64MB
....
IP Protocols: ICMP, UDP, TCP, IGMP
Starting kswapd v1.5
... - and hangs, just sits there for a loong time, never comes out
unless I reset. - ...
