2.3.x and pthreads

Hi,
  I've just figured out that the DVD player code won't run on 2.3.31
because pthread_create is hanging.  It has been suggested that this is a
glibc issue being incompatible with 2.3.x until a certain (unstated)
version.

  Has anyone got any better handle on this?
