I'm currently experimenting with large EIDE disks on
my Athlon which are UATA66 capable. Those devices and
the Athlon board can do 20MB/sec sequential read and write
between devices on separate IDE channels under RH6.0's
default kernel so if you're not seeing good performance,
suspect the Promise controller or your disk. Linux is
quite capable of very good UATA66 performance with the
proper HW. I was surprised by an aggregate thruput with
two devices of 40MB/sec sustained on EIDE. Those HW
engineers are doing a good job of giving SCSI a run for
the money. I bought 3 40GB EIDE disks for $900. Need to
try one on my XP1000 to see what Alpha Linux thinks
about them though. I don't believe either the DS10 or
XP1000 are UATA66 capable. Might be able to do UATA33
though. Anyone know?
