adaptec scsi cont. / srm upgrade?

i just have installed redhat-6.1 on my alphastation255.

i have troubles with my adaptec aic78xx scsi (uw) controller.
the installation was easy (hey! the easiest linux installation i
ever saw - congrats! - just booting at the end should be avoided!)

now i cannot boot from hd because i dont see that controller - hd's
in the srm console.

i just see the on board controller (symbios) and the hd's/cdrom there
(srm>>> show devices).

do i need to upgrade the srm console stuff to make it recognize the
adaptec stuff?
if yes - how/where/...???!!!
