Hardware compatibility??

Hi, 

We are looking at converting some Alpha workstations (currently OpenVms
yuk;)) to Aplha linux they are AlphaStation 500, with 400Mhz cpu's, and
maybe I can get and Alpha Server 2100 too.

Is the hardware gonna run Linux and anyone have any experience with
performance from these class of machines?
