I've had trouble accessing my Teac 12X (model CD-516S) ever since
upgrading to the 2.2 kernel. Able to mount discs just fine under 2.0.36,
but I really, really don't feel like downgrading egcs again and losing
the benefits of 2.2. Hardware is a Miata 500a with an Adaptec 2940UW;
other things on the chain include a Seagate 34572W disk, but that's it.
The Teac is detected just fine when starting up:
Vendor: TEAC Model: CD-ROM CD-516S Rev: 1.0G
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi CD-ROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 3, lun 0
but no matter which disc I try (and I know all of them are not defective),
I get the following when trying to mount:
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/
mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: No medium found
with the following dmesg output:
sr0: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
cdrom: open failed.
Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
Pretty weird, eh? Kernel is 2.2.2pre1, but I've tried almost every
2.2.x kernel with the same results.
Thanks for any help,
Daniel
