Greetings,
For an AWE32, I'm using the 2.1 kernel drivers, which seem to mostly
work for alpha. (As of 2.1.125 and esd 0.2.7, esd works!) Just follow
the AWE32 documentation- which includes info on module loading, isapnp,
and midi font loading using awesfx- it's pretty thorough.
The one catch is that drvmidi runs about 30 times too fast, and I have
yet to find playmidi documentation to figure out how to test it, so I
haven't seen a working midi player that uses the AWE32 sequencer for
alpha. (Haven't had the time to hack drvmidi to look for the problem.)
With regard to 2.0/2.1, with an LX board, if you're using an IDE hard
drive, the DMA driver in 2.1 should be a pretty strong incentive to
upgrade. I'm using 2.1.125, and disk accesses run 3-4 times faster with
less than 1/4 the CPU load. If you just have SCSI, there's not quite so
much reason to switch...
Hope this helps,
